History of Shree Viranarayana Temple

It is believed that a small temple with the original image of Shree Veeranarayana was established in an area called Kulasekhara 800 to 900 years ago by a Savanta king named Kulasekhara of the then Alupa dynasty. Bathing pond, Agricultural lands were offered to the deity by earlier rulers for the maintenance of the temple and also golden ornaments for the decoration of the deity were existed in the Kshetra. However over a period of time it got ruined due to the negligence of the Administration and development was slow during pre-independence period. This information was gathered from historical records of those days.

During this dilapidated condition of the temple, in the year 1943, Moolya community also known as Kulal community has taken up the administration of the temple and adopted Shree Veeranayana deity as their community deity. Since 8 decades this temple is managed by Moolya/kulala community. Daily Pooja offerings like TrikalaPooja, from dusk to dawn, various other poojas are offered in the temple. The dilapidated sanctum (GarbhaGudi) and the compound wall were reconstructed by this committee in the year 1946-48 and Brahma Kalashautsava was also performed.

In addition to this heritage, the continuous rule of the last 80 years has helped the area to become better by worshiping Lord Vishnuroopi Shree Veeranarayana, providing infrastructure and various other development works namely Naagasannidhi, installation of Parivaara Deities, gold ornaments, construction of stonework and TheerthaMantapa,permanent slab for the outer facade, VasantaMantapa, Chandramandala chariot, Stage of BayaluRangaMantapa, Residential space to the Archakas(preists), construction of chariot shed, Construction of ground floor of Annachhatra, kitchen, toilet – 2010, Construction of first floor of well-equipped community hall - 2014. And also Silver Prabhavali for Utsava Murthy - 2015, Underground Water Tank, Renovation of Auditorium Kitchen and Assembly of Kitchen Utensils - 2015, C.C Camera, Bhajana musical instruments, Safe Locker - 2015… Etc. Many more such activities were taken up by the management of the temple.Many religious programs are organized throughout the year namely mass ShaneeshwaraPooja and SatyanarayanaPooja, two public food offerings in a month…etc

As per the inspiration of Shree Veeranarayana deity, Astamangala questioning was performed in the year 2015 and divine intervention Lord’s consent was obtained and (SamagraJeernoddhara) restoration of the complete temple was taken up. Before starting this work several activities, prayers were performed. The total estimated cost in 2015 was Rs 5.00 Crores. Since then cost of materials have increased considerably and have compelled to make few modifications for better look and attraction to the original plan without deviating from the Traditional "Vasthu" and "Sanctity” of the temple which resulted in increase in estimated cost from Rs 5.00 crores to Rs 8.00 crores.After that as a parts of Complete Jeerneddhara, major rituals functions were held as follows : Shilaamuhurtha - 19.10.2018, Baalalaya foundation - 17.02.2021, BimbaPrathiste in Baalalaya - 26.12.2021, ShilaamayaGarbhaGudi foundation - 27.01.2022, GarbhaGudiPaadukanyasa - 17.02.2022, GarbhaGudi "NidhiKumbha" and "ShadaadhaaraPrathiste - 27.03.2022

The Stone Work of the Sanctum Sanctorum (GarbhaGudi) copper roofing of Garbhagudi is almost completed. The work of Suthu Pauli Gopura are now in Progress. Wood required for Sanctum Sanctorum (GarbhaGudi) &SuthuPouli are already arranged. Presently the construction work of the temple is in the final stage. It is our "Sankalpa" to complete the Jeernoddhaara and Brahma Kalashothsava activity before "KumbhaMahothsava" which falls during February 2023. It is a pleasure to inform you that other works are in full swing along with this. The full cooperation of all the well-wishers is essential for the complete restoration works to take place at the earliest. Countdown for Brahmakalasha has already begun.
